Joanna Burdon is a clinical specialist occupational therapist working in hands and plastic surgery at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Joanna’s role involves treating children and adults with upper limb conditions to regain function following trauma and elective surgery.

Joanna is currently involved in a research project with the University of Leeds looking at participation in recreational and leisure activities of children and young people with brachial plexus birth palsy, a condition caused by injury to the nerves that supply sensation and movement to the upper limb.

Joanna has been awarded a pre-doctoral Choral fellowship to develop her research interest further, designing research with children and young people with brachial plexus birth palsy to increase their physical activity participation with the aim to apply for a NIHR doctoral clinical and practitioner academic fellowship. Joanna’s career aspirations are to be a leading clinical academic occupational therapist in children’s upper limb conditions and hopes to encourage other occupational therapists to become involved in research.
