Rachel is a clinical specialist children’s physiotherapist in orthopaedics and rheumatology at the Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust. Rachel works for both the paediatric orthopaedic and paediatric rheumatology teams. Her role involves assessing, diagnosing and managing children with musculoskeletal conditions, both locally and regionally. Rachel has set up a regional network called POPPY (Paediatric Orthopaedic Practitioners & Physiotherapists in Yorkshire) which was recently recognized in the Paediatric Rheumatology “Get It Right First Time” review.

Rachel has been awarded a Yorkshire and Humber NIHR internship and more recently a predoctoral CHORAL fellowship. Rachel intends to review the evidence base regarding physiotherapy management of children with patella instability and to design research with children to identify optimal therapy.  Chronic instability can lead to early onset osteoarthritis and therefore this is an important area of research in paediatric orthopaedics.  Rachel is working towards becoming a clinical or practitioner academic and hopes that she can be a role model to other allied health professionals.
