Autism & Oral Health

toothPASTE is a NIHR and West Yorkshire ICB funded research study led by Peter Day (Professor of Children’s Oral Health and Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry), Amrit Chauhan (Research Lead) and the research team.

The study explores ways to help families of young autistic children feel confident with twice daily toothbrushing, reduce sugary foods and attend dental visits- all of which help prevent tooth decay.

The toothPASTE website offers practical, autism-informed support created with families, professionals and researchers. It is free to use, available in 13 languages and does not require a diagnosis. Resources include videos and downloadable materials, with clear tips on toothbrushing, dental visits, and supporting eating and drinking.
