Aims

We want to transform our understanding and support for children and young people living with and beyond life-threatening illnesses in early childhood.

We will:

  • Undertake randomised clinical trials to assess interventions targeted at improving short-term and long-term outcomes in newborn babies.
  • Use available datasets to investigate relationships between factors such as deprivation, congenital anomalies and maternal health to identify healthcare gaps and research needs.
  • Investigate potential interventions for improving outcomes in those at highest risk.
  • Work with partners (e.g. social care and education) to study and support transition into school.
